acne rednessAcne redness is caused by inflamed, swollen and sometimes scarred tissue. It can be accompanied by pain and sometimes result in lesions that stay in that spot permanently.

Based on my own research and on product ratings I have found the following products to be highly recommended for acne and acne redness. While I believe these are the best anti acne products for treating acne redness  it should be noted that people react differently to different treatment so not all of the following acne products will work for everyone. It is important to experiment to see what works for you.

Phototherapy

laser light therapy for acnePeople suffering from acne and the inflammation that leads to acne redness have practiced do it yourself phototherapy for years whether it is sunbathing outdoors or using indoor tanning salons. Phototherapy produces a substance called porphyrin which reduces the presence of Langerhans cells in the skin responsible for producing the inflamed acne lesions which cause acne redness and red acne scars.

Intense pulsed light, blue light therapy and lasers have been shown to reduce acne redness and more importantly prevent acne from appearing. While dermatologists can perform a blue light therapy in minutes you can purchase these lights to use at home. There are now a wide range of home based light therapy kits available.

In a report in the British Journal of Dermatology and a separate study in the Journal of cosmetic and Laser Therapy, phototherapy reduced a patient’s acne lesion count significantly exhibited a significant reduction in inflamed acne lesions responsible for acne redness.

Lactic Acid Peels

Lactic acid peels otherwise known as ‘lunchtime peel’ are exfoliates which helps to remove dead skin cells and impurities from the pores, thereby improving skin tone. It is also extremely effective at helping to reduce acne redness. It is a good option for those with dry or sensitive skin.

Lactic peels are used by Hollywood’s elite and when performed in a medical spa or dermatologist’s office can cost a considerable amount. Lactic acid peel is used in spas and dermatologist offices around the world.

Copper Peptides

Copper Peptides promote collagen and elastin synthesis and acts as an antioxidant against free radicals. It promotes skin cellular renewal and the skin’s ability to repair itself. It also improves complexion, reduces blemishes and inflammatory conditions such as eczema, rosacea, rashes and the redness caused by acne.

With long term use many users experienced improved overall skin tone and texture, smoother skin, reduced acne redness and acne scars. Users often say that it may takes a while to see results and some say that the acne may get worse before the skin gets used to the copper peptide solution. This may be due to old buried damaged skin re-surfacing before being healed and exfoliated. When combined with a good peel it can have more significant results. Gradual and not too frequent use is recommended.

Emu Oil

Emu Oil is a natural oil extracted from the fat glands of emus contains high amounts of essential fatty acids (EFA’s), Omega 3, 6, 9 and vitamin E. It keeps the skin moisturized and is hypo-allergenic which means it does not contain irritating substances or chemicals and keeps skin moisturized. It allows the EFA’s to penetrate the layers of the skin down to a level that starts new cell growth. It has been known to reduce acne redness in scars. Some say the positive effects are temporary; others say that the effects are long lasting. It has been noticed to be very oily and can clog pores..

Manuka Honey Products

Manuka is a low-lying shrub that is strongly aromatic and contains oils that are Anti-bacterial, antifungal and therefore a good preventative measure against acne and the redness acne can cause to the skin.

Jojoba Oil

Jojoba oil has been theorized to ‘trick’ the skin into thinking it has produced enough oil and thus balance oil production thereby reducing acne redness by preventing acne. It is said to spread well and absorb well into the skin without sealing off the pores. Findings have states that jojoba oil for acne is not irritating to the eyes as well as the skin. Users say that it helps to reduce red acne scaring.
